Scope

The index covers four categories — art hotels, capsule hotels, casino hotels and ice hotels — with four properties in each. It is deliberately small. A short list that has been thought about is more useful than a long one that has been assembled.

Properties are chosen because something about them is structural rather than decorative: a collection the building is arranged around, a sleeping format that replaces the room, a resort where one floor draws the crowd, a hotel that has to be rebuilt every year because the last one melted.

Method

Each entry is written as prose. Where a labelled fact appears at the foot of an entry, it is there because it is genuinely useful and genuinely stable — a location, a season, a format. Prices, capacities and anything else that moves week to week are left out on purpose.

There are no star ratings, no scores, no aggregated review quotes and no guest testimonials. Nothing on this site is written to look like consensus.

Triple Double HQ is not a booking agent, a reseller or an affiliate of any property described here. No hotel pays for inclusion, position or wording, and no entry is written from a press release presented as reporting.

Geography

The index is geographically neutral. Hotels appear because they fit a category, not because of where they are, and no country is treated as the site's home market.
